The calculators use three formulas to calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR) then add in calories for activity level.

These recommendations are based off what I suggest for clients for WEIGHT MAINTENANCE.

If you are trying to lose weight, take these calculations and cut your calories by a small amount- no more than 300 to 500 calories a day!
